Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look out of place, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to head next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then settled his debts and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the influential clan could enable the group enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This means them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
