The anticipation about The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team could be building a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible with a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also famously open-ended, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
