A person who laced sweets with sleeping medication and provided them to youngsters at a summer camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two children who were nine and ten years old.
The accused was detained after eight youngsters and a grown-up fell ill at Stathern Lodge in July.
The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.
However, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was held in detention prior to a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he ran.
Ruben played a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor stated, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the next day.
She explained the defendant had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had concerns in July 2025.
The legal representative added: "This year his stepson had worries about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor said objects including infant oil, ointment and syringes were located, and his stepson notified the police about his worries.
She stated Ruben proceeded to conduct the "sweet game" with six children that evening - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.
"Authorities" had not responded by that time," she added.
The oversight body, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was reviewing the police response of the situation.
The prosecutor explained the children were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson called the authorities again.
She explained the defendant then played the "candy game" in a room of five children.
